Nashville, TN 10/15/25 (Day 4)

Day 4 found us at Monell’s for brunch where the house rules were simple and they had a tree decorated for Halloween. The food was delicious and quite abundant! After that we went back to the hotel for some exploring of the property. Gaylord Opryland Hotel is huge and very much like a botanical garden! We found workers getting Holiday decorations in place, and a huge Christmas Tree & Wreath. Later, we found ourselves at Paula Deen’s for dinner followed by our reservations at The Grand Ole Opry. Because we were such a small group, our Tour Guide Brenda was able to secure backstage passes for all of us and we were allowed to enter through the “Artist Entrance”! What a treat this was. We had seats out in the audience as well and we could come and go to the backstage as we pleased. Truthfully, it was more fun watching from back there and hanging out with the performers. Our performers this night were: Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers, Jim Lauderdale, Gary Mule Deer, Linda Davis & Rodney Crowell. Every one of them were very kind to us backstage. Thank you Brenda Willis!!!

Nashville, TN 10/15/25 (Day 3)

This morning we headed out to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. What a wonderful museum just full of memorabilia from the stars. A cylinder full of bracelets given to Taylor Swift on her tour and that iconic purple gown she wore several years ago. Minnie Pearl’s hat, Willie Nelson’s red boots, Toby Keith’s “Red, White & Blue” guitar, and so much more. We spent 3 hours here and could have stayed longer! But the tour bus was leaving to take us to the Mother Church of Country Music - The Ryman Auditorium. This was the original Grand Ole Opry still in all it’s grand old glory. This evening we were invited to a private concert at the home of our tour guide, Brenda Willis. She bought her property from Randy Travis and many of us wish we could have seen it in daylight! It sits way back in the country on many acres of land surrounded by an iron fence that Randy had installed. Gloria even found a few friends she went on her original tour of Ireland with. The concert was provided by Ranger Doug and Too Slim, two stars of The Riders in the Sky. Below are a few videos of them performing. Ranger Doug can still yodel!!!

Nashville, TN 10/14/25 (Day 2)

This morning we visited the Johnny Cash Farm. This is an old 1800’s building with many other old buildings on the property. The interior is filled with memorabilia of Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash and other members of the Cash Family. There is also an outdoor theater on the property. One photo above is of the original “Million Dollar Quartet” and another is of the car that was built “One Piece At A Time”. After visiting the farm, we had lunch at the Loveless Cafe. Guess who that’s named after!! This afternoon we visited the Johnny Cash Museum that is downtown and then we bought famous chocolate from Goo Goo Clusters. We had some time to hang around downtown for awhile so some of us went up to the roof-top of the Garth Brooks Honky Tonk for a drink where we had fun watching a photographer taking photos in the middle of the busy downtown street. She stopped traffic!! This evening we went dancing at Nashville Palace after dinner. Sorry .. didn’t get any photos inside the Nashville Palace.

Nashville, TN 10/13/25 (Day 1)

Carney Island Hike & Lunch 01/23/25

We did it! Thursday (1/23) morning walk at Carney Island preserve. 40 degrees and misting, but it got better, especially lunch afterwards at Eaton Beach Sandbar and Grill. Carney Island was an Orange Orchard developed by the Carney Brothers in 1875, and many years later, purchased by Coca-Cola / Minuet Maid Company. There are still fruiting orange trees scattered amongst the oak forest. We walked about 4 miles on a nice flat level trail. Some of us saw some deer and others wild turkeys … they eluded the camera though. No bear were spotted.
